College Admissions Advising
We endeavor to use the best methods to help your student showcase his or her best qualities, successfully compete against other applicants and ultimately attain his or her college goals.

College admission is getting tougher than ever due to a "perfect storm" of factors:
  • Students who need to guarantee themselves adequate financial aid options are applying to a dozen or more schools, forcing greater use of waitlist / "wait and see" approaches from admissions offices
  • The peak of the "baby boomlet" is occurring; more high school seniors are graduating now than in the late 1990s and early 2000s
  • A higher percentage of students is applying to college
  • Financial aid budgets are strained due to decreased endowments and alumni giving as a result of the recession
College admissions advising includes, but is not limited to:
  • Assessing the current strength of your student's college profile and the relative strength of each of the application components, such as grades, coursework, test scores, and activities
  • Prioritizing the areas for targeted improvement during the remaining time before admissions season
  • Crafting a comprehensive list of schools and scholarships to apply to
  • Providing admissions and scholarship application advising, including essays
  • Providing financial aid advising Interview coaching (many top universities and/or merit scholarships now require in-person interviews)
  • Providing objective advice for the final college decision
A blend of the above services can be customized for you and your student - please contact us for details at edison@edisonprep.com or 404-333-8573.

For parents desiring a much more in-depth, comprehensive level of college advising throughout the admissions process (not the brief a simple "check-in" application advising that we typically do), we maintain a carefully-curated list of professional college counselors in Atlanta who specialize in such work and are happy to provide it upon request.

"My recommendation for Edison Prep's college advising is simply put: You want them. They gave me the tools to get into my dream school, the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and they knew the exact steps I would need to get there. They motivated me to be a better student and a harder worker. They're comforting, encouraging and make the college process a breeze. I wouldn't hire anyone else." - UPenn Student, Class of 2015

School Selection Advising

Edison Prep also provides school placement counseling. Edison Prep's tutors have worked with hundreds of students at most Atlanta schools over the years, and have become intimately familiar with these schools' curriculums, cultures, and the relative pros and cons of each school. Rankings in local magazines are not always helpful, because what may be the ideal school environment for one student could be suboptimal for another student.

Given the impact that the quality of a high school (and cost, if private school) can have on your student's future and your family's financial situation, getting an insider's expertise is extremely valuable. Parents with multiple children may invest a six-figure sum in private schools; parents who locate a quality public school solution may save six figures in avoiding that tuition.

Who are typical clients for these services?
  • Parents pondering a move to a location in a certain public school district
  • Parents considering several different private school options
  • Parents balancing the "public vs. private" decision relative to their house location and financial situation
  • Parents seeking to learn more about the "intangibles" and "feel" that vary greatly between schools
