Planning your academic journey is crucial, especially when it comes to preparing for the ACT and SAT. Here is a brief testing timeline to guide you through your sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school.
Fall
Take the PSAT/PreACT
Spring
Take mock SAT (or PSAT) + mock ACT by July 4th
(If you’re taking ALG 2 as a Junior, wait until October of Junior year to take mock tests)
Summer
Create an optimal testing timeline based on sports, holidays etc.
Fall & Spring
Prep for your stronger test (SAT or ACT)
Take two consecutive test dates + superscore
Aim to finish testing by June
Summer
Finish re-testing if needed
Refine your college list + visit colleges
Begin writing your Common App essay
Fall
Finish Common App essay + supplemental essays
Apply Early Action/Decision by mid-Oct – early Nov
(Notification by mid-Dec/Jan)
Apply Regular Decision by Dec 31*
(Notification by March/April – or earlier!)
Spring
Final college visits (if needed) by April
Make college decision + send deposit by May 1*
Waitlist notifications (May-August)
