GDOT Construction — Hammond Exit (Exit 5, Hwy 400) Information

– Hammond Ramp info for those coming to us from north of our office –

Road construction detour with warning lights and barriers at GDOT site.

The Edison Prep office is just outside the perimeter near where Glenridge hits Hammond Drive. Hammond Drive is Exit 5 on Highway 400 (Highway 19).

As you likely have seen, GDOT is doing a large construction project at I-285 & 400. From late 2026 to early 2028, they are modifying the existing Exit 5 Ramp with a temporary detour. Many Facebook and NextDoor posts have made the changes sound very scary; they are not a big issue! See the diagram below. All that basically happens is that instead of getting off where you used to get off for the North Springs MARTA exit, you get off about 1.5 miles further south closer to Hammond Drive.

See the graphic below!

Specifically:

  • If you are someone who typically takes 285’s Glenridge Exit to get here, you will need to get off at Roswell Road instead (one exit earlier). Go north two blocks to Hammond, then make a right onto Glenridge to get to our office just south of Hammond. (Ignore the sign.
  • If you’re someone who typically comes west on Hammond, they have cones looking like Glenridge is closed. Ignore those cones and act like you’re going straight and just make a left when you get to the Hammond/Glenridge stoplight like normal. All is well.
  • If you’re someone who typically comes east on Hammond, just make your usual right turn like normal. Nothing changes!

If you normally come from Hammond Drive (e.g. Dunwoody, or from 400 Southbound getting off at Hammond, or East Cobb, et al) or other surface roads to the north of our office, there are likely never any GDOT impacts.
